Authorship and Contributorship Policy
1. Authorship Eligibility and Intellectual Contribution
Jurnal Indo-Islamika recognizes authorship as an acknowledgment of substantive intellectual contributions and a commitment to scholarly accountability. Authorship must reflect an individual's actual involvement in developing, conducting, interpreting, and presenting the research.
In accordance with internationally recognized authorship principles, individuals listed as authors should satisfy the following criteria:
-
Substantial intellectual contribution: Meaningful participation in research conceptualization, methodological development, investigation, analysis, or interpretation of evidence and scholarly sources.
-
Manuscript development: Participation in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing its substantive intellectual content.
-
Final approval: Review and approval of the final manuscript intended for publication.
-
Scholarly accountability: Acceptance of responsibility for the integrity of their contributions and cooperation in addressing questions concerning the accuracy or reliability of the published work.
For research in Islamic studies and the humanities, substantive contributions may include original theoretical development, critical interpretation of classical Islamic texts, analysis of religious discourses, archival investigation, ethnographic research, or other intellectually significant analytical activities.
Authorship must be determined by scholarly contribution rather than academic rank, institutional position, professional seniority, or personal relationships.
2. Author Contribution Statement and CRediT Taxonomy
To promote transparent recognition of individual contributions, Jurnal Indo-Islamika encourages authors to describe their respective roles using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT).
The CRediT framework consists of 14 standardized contribution categories:
| Contributor Role | Description |
|---|---|
| Conceptualization | Development of research ideas, objectives, and theoretical direction |
| Methodology | Design and development of research methods |
| Investigation | Conducting research and collecting evidence |
| Formal Analysis | Application of analytical approaches to research materials |
| Data Curation | Organization and management of research data |
| Resources | Provision of essential research materials or resources |
| Software | Development or implementation of research-related software |
| Validation | Verification of research processes and findings |
| Visualization | Preparation of scholarly visual representations |
| Supervision | Academic guidance and oversight |
| Project Administration | Coordination of research activities |
| Funding Acquisition | Securing financial support for research |
| Writing – Original Draft | Preparation of the initial manuscript |
| Writing – Review & Editing | Critical revision and intellectual improvement of the manuscript |
One author may perform several roles, and a single role may be shared by multiple authors.
The assignment of a CRediT role does not automatically establish eligibility for authorship. Individuals must independently satisfy the journal's authorship criteria.
Authors should ensure that contribution statements accurately reflect the work performed and have been reviewed and agreed upon by all listed authors.
3. Author Order and Corresponding Author
The sequence of authors must be determined through mutual agreement among all contributors who qualify for authorship.
The first author is generally the individual who has made a leading contribution to the intellectual development, investigation, analysis, or manuscript preparation. However, the precise order should reflect the nature of the collaboration and the authors' documented agreement.
Equal contributions may be indicated where justified and agreed upon by the authors.
The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating authorship-related communication with the editorial office, confirming the author list and contribution statements, obtaining agreement from all co-authors, and communicating manuscript revisions and editorial decisions.
All authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission. The corresponding author must not independently add, remove, or reorder authors without their consent.
Author names must be presented without academic titles and accompanied by accurate institutional affiliations, countries, and the corresponding author's email address, consistent with the journal's Author Guidelines.
4. Non-Author Contributions and Acknowledgments
Individuals who provide valuable assistance but do not satisfy the criteria for authorship should be recognized appropriately in the Acknowledgments section.
Such contributions may include administrative assistance, technical support, language editing, translation assistance, general academic advice, logistical coordination, or financial support.
Funding acquisition, institutional leadership, supervisory position, or proofreading alone does not justify authorship.
The journal does not permit gift authorship, honorary authorship, guest authorship, or ghost authorship.
Acknowledgments should accurately describe the assistance provided. Permission should be obtained from individuals whose names are included in the acknowledgments.
5. Changes in Authorship
Requests to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be supported by a clear explanation of the proposed change.
The corresponding author should provide written confirmation that all affected authors agree to the modification, including individuals being added or removed.
The editorial office may request supporting information concerning the contributions of the individuals involved.
Authorship changes should not be used to recognize individuals who do not meet authorship criteria or to exclude contributors who have made qualifying intellectual contributions.
Changes requested after acceptance or publication require additional editorial assessment. Where a published author record needs legitimate correction, the journal may issue a formal correction notice in accordance with its applicable publication policies.
6. Authorship Disputes and Accountability
Disagreements regarding authorship eligibility, author order, or individual contributions should initially be addressed through discussion among the researchers involved.
Where an agreement cannot be reached, the matter may be referred to the relevant institution or research integrity authority for assessment.
The editorial team may suspend manuscript processing while a substantive authorship dispute remains unresolved.
The journal does not independently determine the relative intellectual ownership of disputed contributions where institutional investigation is required.
Authors are expected to cooperate with legitimate inquiries concerning authorship accuracy and accept responsibility for the integrity of their declared contributions.
Author Contribution Statement: Recommended Format
For manuscripts with multiple authors, the following format may be used:
Author Contributions: A.B.: Conceptualization, Methodology, Investigation, Formal Analysis, and Writing – Original Draft. C.D.: Conceptualization, Validation, Supervision, and Writing – Review & Editing. E.F.: Data Curation, Investigation, and Writing – Review & Editing.
All authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript and agree to be accountable for their respective contributions.
For single-author manuscripts, the following statement may be used:
Author Contributions: The sole author was responsible for the conceptualization, methodology, investigation, analysis, manuscript preparation, and final approval of the study.
