TAZKIYA · JOURNAL OF PSYCHOLOGY

Plagiarism Policy

Protecting originality, academic integrity, and responsible scholarly publishing in psychological research.

TAZKIYA Journal of Psychology is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring that all published articles meet appropriate standards of originality and ethical scholarship. Plagiarism, in any form, is unacceptable because it misrepresents the work, ideas, words, or contributions of others as one's own.

All manuscripts submitted to TAZKIYA are subject to editorial screening for originality. The journal uses similarity-checking software, including Turnitin, to assist in identifying text overlap and potential cases of plagiarism. Similarity reports are evaluated by the editorial team and are not treated as the sole basis for determining whether plagiarism has occurred.

1. Similarity Threshold

Below 25%
Similarity Score

TAZKIYA's stated similarity threshold is below 25%. Manuscripts are expected to remain within this limit, subject to editorial assessment of the similarity report and the nature of the matched material.

A similarity score below 25% does not automatically establish that a manuscript is free from plagiarism. Likewise, a score at or above 25% does not automatically prove misconduct. The editorial team examines the sources and context of the matched text, including citations, quotations, references, standard terminology, and any substantial overlap with previously published work.

2. Forms of Plagiarism

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the following practices:

  • Direct plagiarism: Copying another person's words or passages without appropriate quotation, attribution, or citation.
  • Paraphrasing without attribution: Rewriting another person's ideas or arguments without acknowledging the original source.
  • Self-plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's previously published work without appropriate citation or disclosure, or presenting previously published material as new and original.
  • Improper source attribution: Using data, figures, tables, research findings, or other scholarly material without appropriate acknowledgment or permission where required.
  • Misappropriation of ideas: Presenting another researcher's original ideas, theoretical contributions, or intellectual work as one's own.

3. Authors' Responsibilities

Authors submitting manuscripts to TAZKIYA are responsible for ensuring the originality and integrity of their work. Authors must:

  • Submit original work that has been properly cited and referenced.
  • Clearly identify quotations, paraphrases, and material derived from other sources.
  • Obtain permission for copyrighted material when required.
  • Disclose relevant overlap with the authors' previously published work and cite that work appropriately.
  • Ensure that all listed references accurately support the claims attributed to them.
  • Respond honestly to editorial inquiries concerning similarity reports or suspected plagiarism.

4. Editorial Screening and Assessment

The editorial team screens submitted manuscripts using similarity-checking software and evaluates the findings in context. Where substantial or questionable overlap is identified, the editor may conduct a more detailed assessment and request an explanation or revision from the authors.

Editorial assessment may consider the amount and location of overlapping text, the originality of the research contribution, the adequacy of citations, the nature of the source material, and whether the overlap involves previously published work by the authors or others.

5. Actions in Cases of Plagiarism

When plagiarism or other serious originality concerns are identified, TAZKIYA will determine an appropriate response based on the nature, extent, and severity of the issue, as well as the stage of the editorial or publication process. Possible actions include:

  • Requesting clarification or a detailed explanation from the authors.
  • Requesting corrections or substantial revisions when the issue can appropriately be resolved.
  • Rejecting a manuscript when plagiarism or unacceptable overlap is established.
  • Issuing a correction, expression of concern, or retraction for a published article when warranted.
  • Referring serious concerns to the relevant institution or other appropriate body when necessary and appropriate.

The journal will handle suspected cases fairly and consistently, allowing the authors an appropriate opportunity to respond to concerns before a decision is made, where circumstances permit.

6. Originality and Publication Ethics

This policy should be read alongside TAZKIYA's Publication Ethics, Authorship and Contributorship Policy, and other applicable editorial policies. Authors, editors, and reviewers are expected to uphold the principles of honesty, transparency, proper attribution, and accountability throughout the publication process.
