Policy Statement

ELEMENTAR : Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar, published by the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, is fully committed to responsible, transparent, and ethical utilization of artificial intelligence in scholarly research and journal publishing.

AI-assisted technologies may support manuscript preparation and pedagogical analysis. However, their use must never compromise originality, independent intellectual contribution, methodological transparency, data security, or the reliability of research findings.

This policy applies to authors, peer reviewers, editors, Editorial Board members, and all participants in the publication workflow, aligning with the journal's Publication Ethics and COPE guidelines.

Fundamental Principle

Artificial intelligence may assist scholarly work but must never replace human intellectual contribution, independent pedagogical analysis, critical interpretation, or academic responsibility. Human authors, reviewers, and editors remain fully accountable for all content and decisions.

1. Permitted Use of AI by Authors

AI tools may support limited technical preparation without replacing human scholarly contributions:

  • Language Editing: Correcting grammar and spelling.
  • Readability: Improving flow without changing meaning.
  • Outline Assistance: Structuring author-created ideas.
  • Formatting & Translation: Technical consistency and translation verification.
All outputs must be critically verified by human authors.
2. AI as a Research Method or Subject

When AI is studied or used as a methodological tool in primary education research, authors must fully report:

  • Tool name, model version, and exact purpose.
  • Input data, verification steps, and oversight scope.
  • Methodological limitations and ethical safeguards.
Maintains strict methodological transparency.
3. Prohibited Use of AI

Strictly prohibited practices that violate journal ethics include:

  • Presenting AI text as independent human intellectual work.
  • Fabricating data, survey findings, or pupil responses.
  • Generating non-existent references or citations.
  • Uploading confidential school records or student data to external AI.
Classified as serious research misconduct.
4. AI Disclosure & Transparency

Authors must declare tool names, specific purposes, and verification methods in the cover letter and manuscript methods/acknowledgments sections using standardized statements.

Ensures full editorial clarity.
5. AI, Authorship & Responsibility

AI systems, chatbots, or language models must not be listed as authors. Human authors retain absolute accountability for content accuracy, originality, ethical compliance, and overall academic integrity.

Authorship requires substantive human intellectual contribution.
6. Sensitive Data & Student Privacy

Primary education research often involves minor students and school environments. Identifiable student records, classroom audio/video, or sensitive evaluations must never be uploaded to external AI tools without authorized safeguards and parental consent.

Prioritizes minor safety and institutional privacy.
7. AI-Generated Images & Figures

Figures, charts, and photographs must represent evidence accurately. Generative AI must not fabricate visual research evidence. When AI visuals form the actual study subject, clear disclosure is required.

Preserves evidentiary authenticity.
8. Use of AI by Peer Reviewers

Reviewers must maintain strict confidentiality. Uploading unpublished manuscripts, data, or reviewer notes to external AI services without authorization is strictly forbidden. AI must not replace independent scholarly judgment.

Protects peer review confidentiality.
9. Use of AI by Editors

Editors must protect confidentiality and ensure AI systems do not independently determine manuscript acceptance or rejection. Final editorial choices rest solely with human editors.

Maintains human editorial governance.
10. Policy Violations & Action

Suspected violations are investigated under ELEMENTAR's Publication Ethics procedures. Responses range from revision requests and rejections to retractions, proportionate to the severity of the breach.

Enforces robust publishing standards.
