Retraction, Withdrawal & Correction Policy

Maintaining the accuracy, transparency, and integrity of the scholarly record through responsible editorial action.

SCHOLARLY INTEGRITY TRANSPARENT RECORD ETHICAL COMPLIANCE
Policy Statement

ELEMENTAR : Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar, published by the Program Studi Pendidikan Guru Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (PGMI), Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK), UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, is deeply committed to maintaining the reliability and integrity of its scholarly record.

This policy establishes the journal's approach to manuscript withdrawal, published-article correction, retraction, expressions of concern, and exceptional article removal. Its application is informed by the journal's Publication Ethics and relevant COPE recommendations.

Editorial action must be supported by appropriate evidence, fair procedures, and consideration of the effects on readers, authors, research participants, and the scholarly record.

Core Principle

Corrections and retractions protect readers and the scholarly record. Retraction is not intended to punish authors; the appropriate action depends on the seriousness of the problem and its effect on the publication's reliability or integrity.

1. Manuscript Withdrawal

Withdrawal is the formal discontinuation of editorial processing before manuscript publication. Requests require a written explanation from authors detailing:

  • Manuscript title and submission ID.
  • Clear reason for withdrawal request.
  • Consent agreement from all listed co-authors.
  • Relevant supporting circumstances or ethical issues.
Published online-first articles undergo retraction/correction instead.
2. Article Correction

Corrections address important errors without invalidating principal findings:

  • Erratum: For errors introduced during journal production.
  • Corrigendum: For errors originating from author content.
  • Addendum: For minor clarifications without changing findings.
Assessed by editors and linked directly to the original article.
3. Article Retraction

Retraction occurs when reliable evidence shows serious problems affecting reliability or integrity:

  • Unreliable findings or data fabrication/falsification.
  • Redundant duplicate publication without disclosure.
  • Severe plagiarism or intellectual property theft.
  • Unethical research practices or consent violations.
Based on established integrity concerns, not scholarly disagreement.
4. Expression of Concern

Issued when credible serious questions arise, but available evidence remains inconclusive for immediate correction or retraction:

  • Unresolved data authenticity questions.
  • Pending institutional investigations.
  • Substantial delays in resolving integrity issues.
Remains linked to the article until superseded or resolved.
5. Reporting & Assessment

Stakeholders may report concerns with supporting evidence. The editorial office follows a structured review:

  • Initial credibility and seriousness assessment.
  • Author response and clarification invitation.
  • Expert or institutional consultation.
  • Final evidence-based determination and notice issuance.
Maintains strict confidentiality and procedural fairness.
6. Notices & Preservation

Editorial notices must be public, accessible, and permanently linked to the affected article, stating reasons clearly and objectively.

Retracted articles normally remain accessible online with prominent watermarking and linked retraction notices rather than being silently deleted.

Preserves bibliographic metadata and academic transparency.
7. Exceptional Article Removal & Ethical Protection

Complete removal is considered strictly in exceptional situations where public access creates severe legal, privacy, or safety risks (e.g., identifiable children, vulnerable participants, or severe harm). Redaction is prioritized over complete removal whenever possible, retaining basic bibliographic metadata and an explanatory notice.
