The ethical guidelines are based on the COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed journal such as Kordinat: Jurnal Komunikasi Antar Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam is an essential contribution to the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the authors' work and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles embody the scientific method, and it is therefore crucial to establish standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved: authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and the academic community.
Kopertais Wilayah I DKI Jakarta dan Banten, as the publisher of this journal, takes its duties of guardianship over all stages of publishing seriously and recognizes its ethical and other responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint, or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions.
The publication ethics of Kordinat adhere to the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) No. 5 of 2014 on Publication Ethics, which aligns with the core practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These practices aim to promote integrity, transparency, and accountability in scientific publishing.
In managing its publications, Kordinat upholds three fundamental ethical principles:
- Neutrality – Free from any form of conflict of interest.
- Fairness – Providing equal opportunities for publication based on academic merit and competence.
- Integrity – Ensuring the absence of duplication, falsification, fabrication, and plagiarism in the publication process.
Duties of Editors
Editors of Kordinat are responsible for deciding which submitted articles should be published. They ensure that all manuscripts are evaluated for their intellectual content without regard to the authors’ race, gender, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy. Editors may be guided by the journal’s editorial policies and constrained by legal requirements regarding libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism.
Editors must ensure confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and must not disclose any information to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial board members, and the publisher as appropriate.
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the author’s written consent. Editors must avoid conflicts of interest in relation to manuscripts under consideration.
Duties of Reviewers
Peer reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve their manuscripts. All selected reviewers must treat manuscripts as confidential documents and must not share or discuss their content with others except as authorized by the editor.
Reviews should be conducted objectively, and personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and provide supporting arguments.
Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and other published papers should be reported to the editor.
Reviewers must not use unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the author’s written consent. They must also avoid reviewing manuscripts where they have conflicts of interest due to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors.
Duties of Authors
Authors should present an accurate account of their original research, including an objective discussion of its significance. Data should be represented accurately in the manuscript. Sufficient detail and references must be provided to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. If the authors have used the work and/or words of others, this must be appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously, as this constitutes unethical publishing behavior.
Proper acknowledgment of others’ work must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.
Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All co-authors must have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.
All authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support must also be disclosed.
If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is their obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate in retracting or correcting the paper.
Duties of the Publisher
As the publisher, Kopertais Wilayah I DKI Jakarta dan Banten is committed to ensuring that best practices in publication ethics are maintained throughout the editorial and publishing process. The publisher works closely with editors and reviewers to maintain the journal’s academic reputation and integrity.
The publisher ensures that commercial interests do not affect editorial decisions and that all published articles meet the ethical and scientific standards established by the journal.
