Abstract
This study aims to examine the effect of the Discovery Learning model assisted by Educaplay on the mathematical comprehension ability of second-grade students at SDN Cibodas 02, Solokanjeruk District, Bandung Regency. Mathematical comprehension ability is a fundamental competence in mathematics learning encompassing translation, interpretation, and extrapolation. A quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design was employed, involving 28 students from Class IIA (experimental) and 30 from Class IIB (control), totaling N = 58 students. The instrument consisted of 10 essay items on whole number multiplication with Cronbach's Alpha reliability = 0.741. Data were collected through pretest and posttest and analyzed using Independent Samples t-Test following Shapiro-Wilk normality and Levene homogeneity tests. Results showed the experimental class posttest mean (86.18) was significantly higher than the control class (81.87), with t = 2.706; df = 56; p = 0.009 < 0.05; and 95% CI [1.120–7.504]. Effect size measured by Cohen's d = 0.711 indicated a large effect (Coe, 2002). The Discovery Learning model assisted by Educaplay significantly influences mathematical comprehension ability of second-grade elementary students.
