Abstract
The low reading comprehension ability of students in Indonesian language subjects requires appropriate teaching aids. This study aims to improve the reading comprehension ability of Phase C Grade V students at SDN Rendehkidul using mini-book media. This study employs a classroom action research (CAR) method consisting of three cycles. Data were collected through teacher and student observations, interviews, documentation, and descriptive tests. In analyzing the data, this study uses a mixed-method approach. The results of the study show that: (1) students' reading comprehension ability in the pre-cycle stage had an average score of 53 (fair), with a classical completeness percentage of 36.11% (low). (2) The average percentage of teacher activity increased from 78.46% in Cycle I to 86% in Cycle II and 96.50% in Cycle III. Meanwhile, student activity increased from 71.87% in Cycle I to 80.53% in Cycle II and 88.44% in Cycle III. (3) Students' reading comprehension ability improved across cycles, with an average score of 59 (fair) and classical completeness of 47.22% (fair) in Cycle I; an average score of 69 (good) and classical completeness of 63.89% (good) in Cycle II; and an average score of 72.50 (good) with classical completeness of 77.78% (good) in Cycle III. Thus, it can be concluded that the use of mini-book media can improve the reading comprehension ability of Phase C Grade V students at SDN Rendehkidul in Indonesian language subjects.
