Regional development is often understood as an indicator of economic progress, yet in practice it may also produce inequality, competition over space, and social tension. Studies on Lampung have examined the pepper trade, transmigration, infrastructure, social conflict, and local wisdom, but these discussions remain fragmented. This article examines social tensions in the history of Lampung’s development and formulates their relevance to social studies education. The study employed an integrative literature review with historical-thematic analysis of journal articles, books, reports, and documents. The analysis involved issue identification, thematic grouping, historical synthesis, comparison of perspectives, and pedagogical analysis. The findings show that Lampung’s development, from the pepper trade, colonisation, and transmigration to infrastructure modernisation, encouraged economic growth, settlement expansion, and regional integration. However, these processes also transformed social structures, spatial control, population composition, and access to resources. Their effects included unequal land access, spatial contestation, social distance, and intergroup conflict. Meanwhile, piil pesenggiri and muakhi provided resources for respect and social integration. These findings show that Lampung’s development history is relevant to contextual social studies through case studies connected to students’ lives.
