THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN LEARNING ENGLISH AT VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a groundbreaking technology in the contemporary era, particularly in education. This study investigates the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in English language learning at a vocational school, focusing on both students' and teachers' perceptions. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through questionnaires and in-depth interviews with 7 teachers and 35 students. The findings revealed that AI tools such as Chat GPT, Grammarly, and Google Translate are widely used and perceived as effective in improving students' grammar, vocabulary, speaking (pronunciation), listening, and writing skills. Students and teachers also reported that AI supports independent learning and enhances motivation. However, challenges such as overreliance on AI, lack of contextual understanding, limited internet access, and the absence of emotional interaction were identified. The study emphasizes the importance of a balanced learning strategy that combine AI technology with traditional classroom methods to achieve effectiveness and optimize English learning in vocational education settings.
