Plagiarism Policy
KONVENSI: Jurnal Hubungan Internasional dan Ilmu Sosial upholds the highest standards of academic integrity and strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism. Every manuscript submitted to the journal must be an original work that has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere. This policy outlines the procedures, definitions, and consequences related to plagiarism in accordance with the ethical standards of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).
Before entering the peer-review process, each submission will be screened using plagiarism detection software (Turnitin or equivalent tools). The journal requires that manuscripts demonstrate a minimum of 80% originality and a similarity index below 20% (excluding references and bibliography). Manuscripts that fail to meet this requirement will be returned to the authors for revision or immediately rejected based on the severity of the violation.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism occurs when an author uses another person’s ideas, words, data, or work—whether published or unpublished—without proper citation or acknowledgment, and presents them as their own. This includes:
- Copying sentences, paragraphs, or data from other sources without quotation or proper citation
- Paraphrasing another person’s work without acknowledgment
- Using ideas, arguments, or findings from other authors without credit
- Submitting a manuscript that significantly overlaps with previously published work
- Self-plagiarism, defined as reusing one’s own previously published material without citation or justification
- Copying from any source, regardless of whether permission was granted or whether the source is public domain
These rules apply regardless of:
- the type of document (article, thesis, website, etc.),
- authorship status of the copied material, or
- whether permission to reuse was granted.
Plagiarism is considered academic fraud and is unacceptable in any scholarly publication.
Types of Plagiarism and Penalties
- Minor Plagiarism
Small portions of text, phrases, or sentences are copied without proper citation, but do not include significant data, ideas, or conceptual contributions from other works.
Action:
The manuscript is returned to the authors with a request to revise, correct citations, and ensure proper acknowledgment.
- Intermediate Plagiarism
A substantial part of the manuscript (e.g., paragraphs, conceptual statements, or uncredited data) is copied or paraphrased without adequate citation to the original source.
Action:
The manuscript is automatically rejected. Authors may be allowed to resubmit after significant correction, depending on the editorial board’s judgment.
- Severe Plagiarism
Large portions of the manuscript are copied from other sources, including results, data, conceptual frameworks, or methodologies. This includes attempts to reproduce previously published work as new research.
Action:
The manuscript is rejected outright, and all listed authors are prohibited from submitting future manuscripts to KONVENSI.
Plagiarism Checking Procedure
All submitted manuscripts will undergo the following process:
- Initial Screening
- Editorial staff checks similarity using Turnitin or similar tools.
- Manuscripts exceeding the similarity threshold are returned immediately.
- Editorial Evaluation
- Editors examine flagged sections manually to determine the nature and extent of potential plagiarism.
- Decision Making
- Based on severity, editors apply the corresponding penalty as outlined above.
- Authors are notified with an explanation and similarity report.
