Abstract

Everyday history often highlights the social and cultural dynamics that occur in publicspaces. In the Ciputat context, especially under the Ciputat market flyover, people have developed a habit of challenging the flow of traffic as part of their daily efforts to avoid traffic jams. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of residents using rat roads as an alternative to overcome severe traffic jams in the area. The research methodology used includes field observations, in-depth interviews with road users, as well as literature observations regarding urban mobility patterns and daily history. Research findings show that this habit is not only a practical response to traffic situations, but also reflects cultural adaptation to inadequate community infrastructure conditions. Rat roads are a practical solution that reduces travel time and driver stress, although they often involve safety risks. Furthermore, these habits display complex interactions between individuals and the ever-changing urban environment. This study also discusses the implications of this practice for urban planning and transport policy in Ciputat, underscoring the importance of improving public transport facilities and developing more efficient infrastructure. By understanding these daily dynamics, it is hoped that it can provide new insights into efforts to handle congestion and improve transportation systems in urban areas. This research contributes to the everyday history literature by emphasizing the importance of citizen adaptation and innovation in facing the challenges of urbanization.
