Pengaruh Lingkungan Sosial terhadap Aktivitas dan Identitas Anggota Organisasi Primordial KMIK UIN Jakarta
Abstract
This study investigates the influence of social environment on activities and identity of Keluarga Mahasiswa Islam Karawang (KMIK) members at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Jakarta. Utilizing a qualitative approach and applying Pierre Bourdieu's habitus theory, this research explores how social factors such as religious values and group solidarity shape individual habitus within the campus context. The study involves in-depth interviews with KMIK members to understand how their experiences within the organization influence their identity formation and activities. Findings indicate that participation in KMIK enriches members' social and religious experiences while contributing to a transformation of habitus that impacts their thoughts, feelings, and actions within broader social contexts. As a primordial organization, KMIK places Islamic values as the main pillar in shaping collective identities of its members. Participation in religious activities such as study circles and communal prayers serves as a platform for members to strengthen their faith while building solidarity networks in a heterogeneous campus environment. In the analysis through Pierre Bourdieu's habitus theory, it is found that individual habitus within KMIK is formed through internalization of values, norms, and social practices learned and applied in daily life. This process not only shapes members' identities as part of a primordial community but also opens space for habitus transformation through interactions with other members and organizational structures. The study also reveals the dynamics of social interaction within KMIK that play a crucial role in shaping organizational culture. Group discussions, cultural events, and other social activities serve not only as platforms for exchange of ideas and experiences but also to broaden members' insights into Islamic pluralism and Karawang cultural identity. Involvement in KMIK also has significant implications for personal development of members. Through organizational responsibilities such as chairing committees or event planning, members develop leadership skills, time management, and communication skills essential for their academic and professional career development in the future. Challenges are also encountered in the dynamic campus environment, including academic pressure and personal conflicts. However, the values of solidarity and collective support from fellow KMIK members help them to better cope with these challenges and maintain active engagement in organizational activities. This research provides theoretical and practical contributions to understanding the role of primordial organizations in shaping student identities and activities in higher education. The implications of this research for campus administrators and policymakers underscore the importance of supporting and facilitating student organizations as agents in shaping habitus and fostering positive identity development among students. Overall, this study asserts that the social environment, through interactions within primordial organizations like KMIK, plays a crucial role in shaping student activities and identities. Using a habitus theory approach, this research provides deep insights into how religious values, group solidarity, and social interactions shape individual and collective habitus in the context of a diverse and complex campus life.
