Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation model of a people-based economy applied at Ma’had Al-Zaytun Indramayu from the perspective of Islamic economic principles.Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research was conducted through observation, interviews, and document studies involving managers of the Multipurpose Cooperative Desa Kota Indonesia (KSU-DKI) and the Farmers’ Association for National Food Security (P3KPI).The findings show that Ma’had Al-Zaytun has successfully developed a people-centered economic system based on Islamic values by strengthening agriculture, cooperatives, and students’ entrepreneurship. The implementation of the principles of justice (‘adalah), partnership (syirkah), trust (amanah), and sustainability forms the foundation of all economic activities. Beyond improving the pesantren’s internal welfare, this economic model also contributes to community empowerment through job creation, education, and social programs. Therefore, the people-based economic model developed at Ma’had Al-Zaytun can serve as an alternative framework for building a fair and sustainable Islamic economy in Indonesia.
