A Review of the Education System Based on Law Number 20 of 2003 and the Thoughts of Muhammad Abduh in Tsanawiyah Madrasa Mahad al-Zaytun
Abstract
To face global challenges, the national education system must be equitable, high-quality, and efficient. Educational reform needs to be carried out in a planned, systematic, and sustainable manner. Muhammad Abduh emphasized the effective, efficient, and continuously developing management of Islamic education to compete with modern education. This research aims to determine the education system based on Articles 3, 35, and 37 of Law Number 20 of 2003 and Muhammad Abduh's thoughts at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ma'had Al-Zaytun. This research uses a qualitative approach with an analytical descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and the study of relevant documents. The population in this study consisted of the teachers of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ma'had Al-Zaytun, a total of 83 teachers. This study's sample consisted of eight people: the Head of Madrasah, the Curriculum Section, and two teacher representatives at each level. The results showed that the education system in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ma'had Al-Zaytun has been implemented in line with the National Education System Law principles, especially in curriculum, education standards, and integration of religious education and general science. In addition, Muhammad Abduh's thoughts on the modernization of Islamic education are also reflected in the application of learning methods that combine Islamic values and scientific progress. This study contributes to further understanding Islamic and national education integration to face modern education's challenges.
