About the Journal

Paradigma: Jurnal Kalam dan Filsafat is an open-access, peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to advancing scholarship in theological studies (Kalam), Islamic philosophy, religious studies, and mysticism. Published biannually (June and December) by the Department of Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy, Faculty of Ushuluddin, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, in collaboration with the Indonesian Association of Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy (AAFI), the journal serves as a scholarly platform for critical inquiry and intellectual dialogue among researchers, educators, and thinkers from diverse academic traditions.

Focus and Scope

The journal welcomes original research and academic discussions that explore both classical and contemporary thought within its thematic areas. Its scope includes, but is not limited to:

  • Classical and Contemporary Kalam Studies

  • Theological Responses to Modernity and Contemporary Issues

  • Philosophical Thought in the Islamic Tradition

  • Comparative Theology and Interreligious Dialogue

  • Mystical Thought in Islamic and Broader Religious Contexts

  • Epistemology and Metaphysics in Islamic Philosophy

  • Ethical and Political Dimensions in Theological and Philosophical Discourse

  • Contributions of Muslim Thinkers to Global Philosophy

Submissions may be written in English, Arabic, or Bahasa Indonesia, and interdisciplinary approaches are highly encouraged.

Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review.

  1. Initial Screening – Manuscripts are assessed for relevance, originality, and adherence to formatting guidelines.

  2. Double-Blind Review – At least two reviewers evaluate each paper anonymously to ensure objectivity.

  3. Conflict of Interest Policy – Reviewers must decline assignments where potential conflicts exist.

  4. Editorial Decision – Authors may receive one of four outcomes: Accept, Revisions Required, Resubmit for Review, or Decline.

  5. Appeal Process – Authors may appeal editorial decisions through a formal review process.

The review process typically takes six weeks, with clear communication maintained throughout.

Open Access Policy

Paradigma adheres to the principles of open access publishing, ensuring that all content is freely available without charge to users or their institutions. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles, or use them for any other lawful purpose, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.

All published materials are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license. This allows for sharing and adaptation of the work, provided proper attribution is given and derivative works are distributed under the same license.

Copyright Notice

Authors retain the copyright of their articles and grant the journal the right of first publication under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license. This ensures that works are freely accessible and may be reused with appropriate credit.

Archiving and Preservation

The journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to ensure secure, distributed digital preservation and long-term access to published content. Participating libraries are permitted to create permanent archives of the journal for preservation and restoration purposes.

Publication Ethics

Paradigma upholds strict publication ethics in accordance with international standards for scholarly communication. All parties—authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers—are expected to adhere to the principles of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the publication process.

Publication History

Since its establishment, Paradigma: Jurnal Kalam dan Filsafat has aimed to foster critical engagement with Islamic intellectual traditions and their relevance to modern challenges. The journal became a registered member of CrossRef in 2019, ensuring each published article is assigned a unique DOI for reliable citation and persistent online availability.
