KOMUNIKASI EFEKTIF PERAWAT (VERBAL DAN NON VERBAL) DALAM MENINGKATKAN HARAPAN POSITIF PASIEN STROKE

Abstract


Background: Worldwide, stroke is the disease that most frequently causes death. In 2020, M.Hatta Bukittinggi Brain Hospital received 1,704 stroke patients in the inpatient ward and 8,998 outpatient patients. In 2023, the number of stroke patients in the inpatient ward was 3,847, and the number of outpatient stroke patients was 8,626. Because of that incident, stroke patients no longer have any hope of survival. And the communication carried out by nurses during the treatment process can influence the positive expectations of stroke patients. Aim: This research aims to determine the effective communication of nurses (verbal and non-verbal) in enhancing positive expectations in stroke patients. Method: This descriptive-analytic study was conducted in March 2025 and involved 341 subjects. The number of samples taken was 96 people, and the accidental sampling technique was used. Data were collected using an effective communication questionnaire, which has a validity test of 0.361 and a reliability test of 0.827. Data analysis includes descriptive analysis to describe each statement found in the questionnaire. Result: The research results show that effective nurse communication, both verbal and nonverbal, helps improve positive expectations, according to 56.3% of respondents. Conclusion: It is concluded that the life expectancy of stroke patients increases due to effective communication by nurses. To improve stroke patients' expectations more positively, nurses at M.Hatta Bukittinggi Brain Hospital are expected to always communicate with stroke patients effectively, both verbally and nonverbally, such as by giving gentle touches on the back of the patient's hand and providing positive support.
