TILĀWAH IN TAFSIR AL-MANĀR: A Thematic Approach

Abstract

This research discusses the degradation of meaning tilāwah which is politicized by outsiders to avoid the truth of the Qur'an, exploring a comprehensive understanding of the term tilāwah in Tafsir al-Manār by Muhammad Abduh and Rasyid Riḍā. Using descriptive-analytical methodology in conjunction with an analytical approach (analysis), this study determined that tilāwah deep al-Manār realize a systemic unity that integrates three fundamental dimensions: textual observation (qirā'ah), intellectual internalization (tadabbur), and practical manifestations (ittba’). The consequences of this comprehensive interpretation recalibrate the framework of human engagement with the Quran from a focus on rewards to a socially transformative paradigm. The results show that tilāwah not only applied to the Qur'an, but also applied to the Taurat and the Injil, Rasyid Riḍā criticized the outsider due to the implementation tilāwah If it is not carried out comprehensively, there is an exclusive nature characterized by closing oneself off from the truth. It should be, tilāwah acts as a catalyst for accepting the truth and for civilizational change (action), which begins through individual awareness. This research significantly contributes to the advancement of discourse around Quranic literacy by offering a more integrative perspective in understanding the word tilāwah.
