Abstract

This study aims to analyze the transformation process of Jogokariyan Mosque in Yogyakarta toward economic independence through productive waqf management and to formulate a transformation model that can serve as a reference for mosque-based productive waqf development. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review, and analyzed using an interactive analysis model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the institutional transformation of Jogokariyan Mosque is driven by strengthening visionary leadership, transparent and participatory governance, optimization of productive waqf assets through the Waqf Hotel, Community Agricultural Laboratory, and Mosque-Owned Enterprise (BUMM) Bakery, as well as sustainable community empowerment. The integration of these components has strengthened the mosque's economic independence while enhancing its religious, educational, social, and community service functions. The novelty of this study lies in the formulation of the Mosque Productive Waqf Transformation Model (MPWT Model), which systematically explains the interrelationship among leadership, institutional governance, productive waqf management, business development, and community empowerment as the foundation for achieving sustainable mosque economic independence.
