Author Guidelines

SocioLens Journal Author Guidelines

Manuscript Submission Requirements:

1.     The article must be an original work written by one or more authors within the scope of Social Sciences and Political Sciences. The article should be between 15-20 pages or 3500-8000 words (including figures and tables). The article structure includes Introduction, Methods, Results and Discussion, Conclusion, figures or graphics, and tables.

2.     Manuscripts must be typed on A4 paper using Times New Roman font, size 12, with single spacing. The margin size must be 2 cm for the entire document. Page numbers should be placed at the top right corner of the page. It is recommended to use reference management tools: MENDELEY and ZOTERO.

3.     The manuscript sequence consists of a title, abstract, content, and references. Detailed information is explained as follows:

Title consists of:

  • Title: no more than 16 words.
  • Author's name: written in full without academic titles.
  • Institution: stated in full, including the study program and the name of the institution.
  • Corresponding author: email address.

Abstract:

  • The abstract is written in both Indonesian and English.
  • It includes the research problem, main methods used, key results addressing the problem, and two discussion sentences explaining the results.
  • Keywords (3-5 keywords).

Content: The content of the article includes the introduction, methods, results and discussion. Conclusion and references are also part of the article's content.

1.     Introduction contains: 1) research problem, 2) insights and problem-solving plans, 3) research objectives, and 4) a summary of the theoretical review. Sometimes, authors may state the expected results of the research. The introduction should be 2-3 pages long.

2.     Methods explain how the research was conducted. The main content includes: 1) research design, 2) population and sample, 3) data collection techniques and instrument development, and 4) data analysis techniques. Tools and materials used in the research must be specifically mentioned.

3.     Results and Discussion. The presented results should be the main findings. Data analysis processes such as statistical calculations and hypothesis testing do not need to be presented. Tables and graphics can be used to explain the results verbally and must be accompanied by comments or discussions.

4.     Conclusion. This section contains a summary and suggestions. The summary presents the results and discussions based on research objectives. Suggestions may include practical actions, the development of new theories, and/or further research.

5.     References must include at least 5 references from scientific journals published within the last 5 years. If the topic relates to an article previously published in the SocioLens Journal, please cite that article. Meanwhile, references from books have no publication year limitation. Authors' names and the titles of quoted books or texts must be shown in the body of the article (in-text citations). The reference format uses Chicago Turabian Style (b), sorted alphabetically:

Figures and Tables:

  • Figures and tables are separated from the content pages.
  • Figures and tables are not presented within the main text but are placed on pages following the references.
  • Figures and tables should not be placed together; instead, group them by category (figures or tables).
  • Each figure and table must have a title or description.
  • Figures should be set ‘in line with text’ and must not exceed a maximum width of 5 cm. If using photos, the recommended resolution is 100 high resolution (at least 300 DPI).
  • Table titles are placed above the table, while figure captions are placed below the figure. Mention specific table names when referencing, such as: Table 1.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
