Abstract

The global prevalence of hypertension continues to increase, so it requires special attention because it can cause complications such as stroke. This needs to be prevented with various appropriate treatments, one of which is non-pharmacological treatment, namely providing hydrotherapy by soaking the feet in warm water because it is easy to do independently, is more practical, and does not cause side effects. The aim is to apply community nursing care to the elderly population with hypertension to reduce blood pressure through hydrotherapy. Based on the results of the assessment, a diagnosis of ineffective self-management of health was obtained, and a nursing intervention was formulated in the form of health education to reduce hypertension through hydrotherapy. The activity was carried out using the counseling method through demonstrations carried out using the home visit method on six older adults who had hypertension, which was carried out on three consecutive days for 15 minutes. Evaluation is carried out by checking blood pressure before and after hydrotherapy. The evaluation results show that there is a decrease in blood pressure before and after the demonstration. It can be seen from the results of the Wilcoxon test on systolic blood pressure with a p-value = 0.027 and the paired samples test on diastolic blood pressure with a value of 0.001. Both are smaller than the α value (p < 0.05), proving hydrotherapy's effect on blood pressure in hypertensive elderly. Therefore, it is hoped that hydrotherapy can be used as a companion therapy to lower blood pressure in hypertension sufferers in everyday life.
