Penegakan Hukum dan Perlidungan Korban dalam Framing Pemberitaan Pelecehan Seksual di Kompas.com

Abstract

This study analyzes how the online media outlet Kompas.com frames news stories about sexual harassment cases and the application of the Journalistic Code of Ethics in such reporting. The study employs a qualitative approach using the framing analysis method developed by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki, which encompasses syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical structures. The research data were obtained from three news articles published by Kompas.com between October 5 and October 12, 2025. The results of this study indicate that news coverage frames cases of sexual harassment as legal events that emphasize the process of holding perpetrators criminally accountable. This is evident in the dominance of police officials as news sources, the focus on the chronology of events, and the use of legal terminology. On the other hand, the social and psychological backgrounds of both the perpetrators and victims have not been covered in the news coverage; consequently, the resulting narrative focuses on the handling of the case rather than a comprehensive understanding of the events. In accordance with journalistic ethics, Kompas.com has made efforts to ensure the accuracy of the information and protect the victims’ identities. However, the principle of balance in the selection of sources has not been fully achieved. This indicates that journalistic practices in online media still face the challenge of balancing the public’s need for information with the protection of victims
