Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

5.1 Double-Blind Peer Review Policy

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Sustainable Islamic Economics and Finance (JSIEF) undergo a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure academic quality, originality, methodological rigor, and scholarly contribution. Neither authors nor reviewers are informed of each other's identities during the review process.

5.2 Three-Stage Review Workflow

Stage 1: Initial Editorial Screening (5–7 Days)

The Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief evaluate submissions against the following criteria:

  • Scope alignment with JSIEF's editorial vision;
  • Originality and novelty of contribution;
  • Academic English writing quality;
  • Ethical compliance, including IRB approval, consent, and conflict disclosure where applicable;
  • Similarity screening using industry-standard plagiarism detection;
  • Adherence to JSIEF manuscript template and reference standards.

Manuscripts failing to meet the minimum standards may receive a desk rejection within seven days.

Stage 2: Expert Peer Review (4–8 Weeks)

Eligible manuscripts are assigned to at least two independent expert reviewers selected based on subject-matter expertise, methodological expertise, and international publication record. Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on the following aspects:

  • Originality and novelty;
  • Theoretical contribution, including the extent to which the manuscript builds, extends, or challenges theory;
  • Methodological robustness and appropriateness;
  • Data quality and representativeness;
  • Analytical depth beyond description;
  • Policy and practical relevance;
  • Quality of academic argumentation and writing.

Stage 3: Editorial Decision

Based on reviewer reports, the Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept: no further changes are required;
  • Minor Revision: acceptance is pending light revisions;
  • Major Revision: substantive revisions are required and may be subject to re-review;
  • Reject and Resubmit: extensive rewriting is required before the manuscript can be reconsidered;
  • Reject: the manuscript does not meet the journal’s standards.
