Publication Ethics
PUBLICATION ETHICS
This statement of scientific code of ethics applies to all parties involved in the publication process of Inklusiva: Jurnal Studi Agama-agama, including journal managers, editors, peer reviewers, and authors. This statement of publication ethics is based on the Head of LIPI Regulation No. 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications.
Scientific publication ethics uphold three ethical values in publication: (i) Neutrality, which ensures freedom from conflicts of interest in managing publications; (ii) Fairness, which grants authorship rights to those who deserve to be recognized as authors; and (iii) Honesty, which ensures publications are free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P).
Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Managers
- Determine the journal’s name, scientific scope, publication frequency, and accreditation application if necessary. Establish the editorial board membership.
- Define the relationships between the publisher, editors, peer reviewers, and other relevant parties in a contract.
- Respect confidentiality regarding contributing researchers, authors, editors, and peer reviewers.
- Enforce norms and regulations concerning intellectual property rights, particularly copyrights.
- Review journal policies and communicate them to authors, editors, peer reviewers, and readers.
- Develop guidelines on ethical conduct for editors and peer reviewers.
- Publish the journal regularly.
- Ensure the availability of funding sources for the journal’s sustainability.
- Build collaboration networks with research institutions and relevant agencies.
- Arrange for necessary permits and legal aspects.
Duties and Responsibilities of Editors
- Align the interests of readers and authors while continuously striving to improve publication quality.
- Implement processes to ensure the quality of published manuscripts.
- Promote freedom of expression in an objective manner.
- Maintain the integrity of authors’ academic records.
- Provide corrections, clarifications, and apologies when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with the journal’s style and format guidelines, while the content and statements in the manuscript remain the author’s responsibility.
- Actively seek feedback from authors, readers, peer reviewers, and editorial board members to enhance publication quality.
- Conduct periodic internal evaluations of journal quality.
- Support authors' ethical publication initiatives by requiring a clearance form for each manuscript submission.
- Be open to new perspectives or differing views, even those contradicting personal opinions, to advance scientific knowledge.
- Avoid subjective decisions by not favoring personal opinions, authors, or third parties, and instead seek scientifically accountable resolutions.
- Encourage authors to revise their manuscripts until they meet publication standards.
Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers
- Review manuscripts and provide feedback to editors as a basis for publication decisions.
- Refrain from reviewing manuscripts in which they have a direct or indirect conflict of interest.
- Provide constructive feedback, suggestions, and recommendations for scientific manuscripts.
- Maintain author confidentiality by not disclosing review comments, suggestions, or recommendations.
- Encourage authors to improve their manuscripts.
- Re-evaluate revised manuscripts to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Complete manuscript reviews in a timely manner according to the journal’s style guide and scientific principles, including data collection methods, authorship legitimacy, conclusions, and other relevant aspects.
Duties and Responsibilities of Authors
- Ensure that all listed authors meet the criteria for authorship.
- Be collectively responsible for the work and content of the article, including methods, analyses, calculations, and details.
- Disclose the sources of funding, whether directly or indirectly.
- Acknowledge any limitations in the research.
- Respond professionally, scientifically, and promptly to comments from peer reviewers and the editorial board.
- Notify the editor in writing if they wish to withdraw their manuscript.
- Declare that the submitted manuscript is original, has never been published in any form or language, and is not under consideration by another publisher.
Ethical Compliance
- Research articles involving animal or clinical studies must include a statement confirming compliance with the ethical approval of an animal or human ethics committee, if applicable.
- All scientific studies must adhere to relevant national and local guidelines.
- Each author guarantees that their research institution has fully approved the protocol for all scientific studies involving humans or animals and that all experiments have been conducted in accordance with ethical research principles and ethics committee approval.
