Plagiarism Policy

Empati: Jurnal Ilmu Kesejahteraan Sosial upholds the highest standards of academic integrity. Every manuscript submitted to Empati must be original and free from any form of plagiarism. To ensure this, all submissions are screened using Turnitin or other reliable plagiarism detection tools.

The maximum similarity allowed is below 25%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned to the author for revision or rejected depending on the severity of the plagiarism.

Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism refers to copying someone else's work—text, ideas, data, or figures—without proper acknowledgment. This includes:

  • Directly copying sentences, paragraphs, or structure without citation
  • Using another person’s ideas without proper attribution
  • Self-plagiarism (reusing one’s own previously published work)
  • Copying from any source, whether published or unpublished
  • Taking content even when permission is granted but without citation

Types of Plagiarism and Editorial Actions

Classification Description Editorial Action
Minor Plagiarism Small sentences or short paragraphs are copied without affecting originality of ideas. Author receives a warning and must revise the manuscript, ensuring proper citation.
Intermediate Plagiarism Substantial text, ideas, or a paragraph is copied without proper referencing. Manuscript is automatically rejected.
Severe Plagiarism Large portions of content are copied including data, methodology, or original findings from other works. Manuscript is rejected and the author is banned from future submissions.

By submitting to Empati, authors acknowledge that detected plagiarism in any form is unethical and unacceptable, and may result in serious consequences including manuscript withdrawal and publication restrictions.

This plagiarism policy aligns with the ethical guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
