Professional zakat is a form of zakat mal (zakat al-mal) that is obligatory on income from a specific profession or job. Despite its significant potential for supporting economic equality among small traders, the implementation of professional zakat among small traders remains suboptimal. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, collecting data through observation, in-depth interviews, and questionnaires with 30 traders as the primary respondents. The results showed that most traders have minimal understanding of professional zakat, the nisab (minimum threshold), and its calculation procedures. Common practices include spontaneous donations and alms, rather than professional zakat according to sharia regulations. Low zakat literacy, income fluctuations, lack of financial records, and minimal outreach from zakat institutions are the dominant contributing factors.
