PERAN KOMUNIKASI NONVERBAL DALAM MENINGKATKAN INTERAKSI DAN PRESTASI AKADEMIK MAHASISWA PROGRAM STUDI BIMBINGAN PENYULUHAN ISLAM UIN SYARIF HIDAYATULLAH

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the role of nonverbal communication in enhancing interaction and academic achievement among students of Islamic Guidance and Counseling at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah. Nonverbal communication, including gestures, facial expressions, eye contact, and body posture, is a crucial element in creating a conducive learning environment and supporting communication effectiveness. This study employed a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews involving two lecturers and five students. The results indicate that nonverbal communication plays a significant role in building harmonious relationships between lecturers and students. Lecturers who use enthusiastic expressions and open hand gestures can create a more dynamic classroom atmosphere, encouraging active student participation. Conversely, closed attitudes from lecturers or students can hinder effective two- way communication. Additionally, nonverbal communication among students is essential in group work, fostering trust and improving interaction efficiency. The impact of nonverbal communication on academic performance is reflected in increased learning motivation and better material comprehension. The effective combination of verbal and nonverbal communication enables students to feel more confident, engage actively in discussions, and achieve academic goals more easily. Factors such as culture, personality, and environment influence the effectiveness of nonverbal communication. This study recommends nonverbal communication training for lecturers and students, as well as integrating this material into the curriculum. These efforts aim to raise awareness and enhance skills in utilizing nonverbal communication as a learning support tool.
